Four women share a dressing room. These actresses share a great love for the theatre and for the work of Shakespeare and Chekhov. Their own roles on the stage, in the theatre, in their off stage lives blend, and the resulting conflicts illuminate much of what compels people into a life in the theatre. As the actresses in the piece “pretend” to be other people our own notions of what is true come into question. The Dressing Room has been one of the most popular plays on the Japanese stage and around the world since its premiere in 1977. This unique combination of Eastern and Western theatre makes its Chicago debut as part of the Organic’s new repertoire.
